The Foundation supports new and innovative
projects which further its mission
of promoting knowledge and friendship between the people of Germany
and those of the United States. The Foundation relies on the
requesting organization
to fully organize, staff, and execute any projects for which
grants are requested.
As a matter of general policy, the Foundation does not support
budget relief
of previously established organizational projects, even if those
projects
fit within the Foundation’s mission.
Grant Application Guidelines
Please Note: Beginning Spring 2009, The Halle Foundation has made the difficult decision to suspend grant making to all but named, supported organizations. Please contact the Executive Director for further information.
An application form is not required. Applicants should submit
a letter of request limited to one page and should include the
following information:
-
Name and address of
applying organization
-
Concise description of the organization,
statement of mission and brief history
of the organization
-
A
description of the proposed project and specific amount
of grant money requested
In addition to
the request letter, Applicants should submit the following
attachments:
-
Brief overview of programs
and services
-
Brief description of staffing
-
Roster of governing board members
-

organization’s latest
Form 990
-
An itemized project budget, including other sources
of support already obtained or
anticipated
-
A copy of the organization’s IRS
501(c)(3) determination letter
Preference is given to new projects or initiatives. Routine
administrative expenses of organization (salaries, operating
costs, rents) should not be included in grant requests.
Organizations which seek Foundation
support are encouraged to contact the Executive Director with
an informal inquiry before submitting a full proposal to determine
potential eligibility of the request. The Foundation’s
policy precludes personal appearances by applicants before
the Board.
All grant inquiries and proposals
should be in writing and should be directed to the Executive
Director, The Halle Foundation, P.O. Box 724075, Atlanta, Georgia
31139. The Halle Foundation does not accept grant proposals
via e-mail. Grant requests may be submitted at any time during
the year. The Board of Trustees usually meets three times a year.
Proposals received by January 15 are considered at the Winter
(February/March) board meeting of the Board of Trustees; proposals
received by April 1 are considered at the Spring (April/May)
board meeting; proposals received by September 15 are considered
at the Fall (October/ November) board meeting. Applicants are
encouraged, however, to submit proposals well in advance of these
deadlines. One copy of the grant proposal is sufficient unless
otherwise requested by Foundation staff.
The Foundation may require additional information, an interview,
or a site visit. If a proposal clearly is not within the giving
interests of the Foundation, the applicant will be notified immediately.
The Applicant will be notified
of the Board’s decision
within 30 days of the applicable meeting of the Board of Trustees.
